Core Skills for the New Professional

Core Skills for the New Professional

Have you experienced any of the following with new professionals at your firm?

  • Inappropriate dress
  • Limited social skills
  • Inability to connect with senior leaders
  • Offensive communication styles
  • High levels of expectations

By providing Core Skills for the New Professional for your Summer Associates, you will help them:

  • Assimilate easier and faster into your firm’s culture;
  • Get clear messages on dress, behavior and expectations, reducing tension and misunderstanding;
  • Learn skills that will drastically improve their performance when they join your firm as associates, saving your firm time and money on additional training programs.

After this half-day, highly interactive and engaging training session, specifically tailored to reflect your organization’s culture, your Summer Associates will be on the fast track to developing core competencies that will make them more successful at your firm.

Session I - Total Image ManagementPresent your very best self to others (wardrobe, accessories, posture, handshake, eye contact). Demeanor is Testimony! Participants will learn why it’s important to manage the effect their outward appearance has on others, and what it means to represent the firm as ambassadors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Session II - Mind Your Manners Dining with grace and civility when the meal is all business. This is a must for anyone who eats! Dining comfortably with others is a crucial skill for those in professional services. More than food is left on the table when clients become turned off by rude and distracting behavior during lunch and dinner, then take their business elsewhere.

Session III - Nuts & Bolts of NetworkingEvery relationship matters. Attendees will learn the art of establishing and nurturing relationships for the long term. Expert tips on how to start a conversation, how to end one, and what to say in between; developing a contacts database and learning what each of us has to give in order to begin a reciprocal business relationship.

Session IV - Email, Voicemail and Face-to-face CommunicationIt’s not what you say, but how you say it. Crafting your message and delivering it properly isn’t always easy in the age of technology. Many times our messages get misunderstood when conveyed via email or voicemail. New professionals will learn how to be more clear and concise, and develop an understanding of how each of the four generations now in the workplace prefer to communicate.

Consider adding an actual luncheon or dinner to this training – a great way to reinforce learning!
